Born Yong Franklin in
1985 at Tombel Cameroon, YONG is a rapper and stage ace. As a child, he
demonstrated a natural graphic ability but was never encouraged to pursue art
professionally. Largely a self-taught painter he paints during his free time.
Passionate about music with the natural ability to adjust own style to suit
different music; he naturally leaned towards music for his artistic expression.
He is a quick learner who is always open to learn new styles, having good
coordination with other musicians. YONG's rapping is exciting and breathtaking.
He is noted for his mesmerizing and captivating vocal tone; strong and
assertive. He is a musician who uses the voice as his instrument, displaying
precision and agility, mixed with heartfelt emotion. His honesty shines in his
recordings. A highly talented rapper with extensive experience in entertaining
live audiences in nightclubs, concert halls, and theaters; and exclusively for
recording and production studios. He has the ability of casting a musical spell
over the audience. He has more than fifteen years of experience in music.
Uncommon knowledge of music gained since early age. In 2000, he performed at
‘‘Couleur Tropical’’ hosted by the internationally acclaimed Claudy Siar. In
2001 he did opening performances for International reggae singer Nuttea in Douala
and Yaounde. From 2003 to 2010 he performed at the yearly ‘‘Ecrans Noir’’
international film festival in Cameroon. He also delivered a poignant opening
performance at Congolese singer Singuila’s first concert in Cameroon in 2003 at
the Camtel club in Yaounde. The following year he enchanted the audience as an
opening performer at the concert of the French group Dit Leur de Reggae. In
2008 he held the audience spellbound as an opening act at African reggae icon
Tiken Jah Fakoly’s concert in Yaounde Cameroon. Between major concerts, he
performs regularly in clubs and small concert halls. He has collaborated with
the cream of Cameroonian urban artists notably Ras-yn, Joel Teek, Krotal, Big
Bezzy, THA EGOZ, DADDY BLACK, Funkis, Korongo Jam, Foret Dance, just to name a
few in various projects including stage performances and studio recordings.
YONG is certainly an artist to watch. He already shows maturity and style in
his work but is still considered an emerging artist. His musical style is
eclectic yet firmly grounded in his Cameroonian and African culture. A smooth
balance of rhythm and lyrics characteristically delivered through poignant
punch lines and rhymes and encapsulated in melodic bubbles scoped to carry
emotions and express them with
